Finally a blogger!

Thanks to my amazing daughter I am now a blogger! I guess I will start with an introduction.  I teach first grade at Deerfield Elementary in Cedar Hills, UT.  This is my fifth year at Deerfield and sixth year teaching first grade. I work with some amazing people and great friends! They make the rough days a little easier!
Being a teacher is exhausting, frustrating, thankless, demanding, and rewarding. The last two nights I had parent conferences.  It is funny because you always have the fear of getting a parent or parents that don't appreciate you or think you are not doing a good enough job teaching their child.  This is not the case with the parents of my kids!  I have some amazing parents who are very supportive and let me know they appreciate me. That means a lot to me!
My little first graders never cease to amaze me! This week I started a new behavior system.  It is a turn your card to different colors plan.  They all start out on green and if by the end of each day they are still on green they get to put their name on a slip of paper and put it in a jar.  On Friday's I draw out three names for a prize.  Today was the first day.  I was a little nervous because there were a lot of names in the jar and I was only going to choose three.  Before I drew the names I said to the kids "Ok so what are you going to do if your name is not chosen  are we going to whine and cry and say it is not fair?" They all said no.  Ok so I drew out the first name and when I said the name my little first graders clapped for the person whose name was drawn. I was so touched by their act of kindness!  I told them "You boys and girls just warmed my heart!" This is why I am a teacher!!

I thought about you the last two nights, knowing it was Parent Teacher Conf. I'm glad you survived!
